Dr Helen Chandoha-Knott, Optometrist

Dr. Helen J. Chandoha-Knott has been practicing optometry since 2000 and is the staff optometrist at Engle Eyewear since 2011. She is a graduate from Wilkes University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She continued her education at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts where she completed a diverse clinical rotation experience in different optometric settings: ocular disease at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, specialty contact lens fittings, and primary eyecare. She earned clinical honors at her different rotations and received the National Optometrist Student Association award for providing eye care services in low income communities. Dr. Chandoha-Knott also successfully completed a one-year cornea residency through the Pennsylvania College of Optometry which emphasized pre- and post-operative co-management of refractive surgery, corneal disease management, and emergency optometric care. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and Northeastern Pennsylvania Optometric Society. She featured as a published author in the Manual of Contact Lens Prescribing and Fitting, Contact Lens & Anterior Eye, and Contemporary Optometry (a monthly publication for continuing education in optometry). She keeps up-to-date and is motivated to learn new treatments for her patients by attending seminars, reading clinical journals, and listening to webinars. Dr. Chandoha-Knott has a special interest in specialty contact lenses such as bifocal and hard to fit contact lens fits and dry eye.

In her spare time, Dr. Chandoha-Knott enjoys spending time with her husband John going to antique car/motorcycle shows and national historical parks. She enjoys being with her family doing outdoor activities, such as gardening, hiking, biking, and training for 5K races. One day she would like to run a half marathon. She is also director of religious education and council member of her church.
Dr. Chandoha-Knott is a first generation American who is humble and appreciative of her parents’ hard work and commitment for her education — achieving her dream of becoming an optometrist and first doctor in her family. Each day she continues to keep her parents proud with her diligent, conscientious, and caring approach to her patients and her profession.
